Music and tap dance workshops are taught by Jamie Larowitz Sherman and guest instructors, and held at Accent On Rhythm Studio and other facilities local to Boston. Jamie’s improvisation workshops are accompanied by local jazz and world musicians and offer individual attention in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere.

Highlights of last season were “Finding Your Rhythmic Voice” -- where participants experimented with vocalizing and tap improvisation -- taught in combination by jazz vocalist/tap dancer Patrice Monahan, jazz composer/pianist Mark Kross, and Accent On Rhythm director Jamie Larowitz Sherman; and “Music Theory for Tap Dancers” also taught by Mark Kross, where tap students and instructors had an opportunity to focus on the fundamentals of music often glossed over in dance classes.

Accent On Rhythm‘s jazz tap jams at the Arlington Center for the Arts attracted tappers from all over the northeast, were featured in Dance Spirit Magazine, and included impromptu performances by tap greats such as Sue Ronson and Jane Goldberg.

A new repertoire series, “Passin’ It On -- Choreography of the Great Tap Masters”, began in August 2003 with Jamie’s Buster Brown Rep, and will continue in February with Heather Cornell’s “Valentine to Eddie Brown”. Additional sessions of this series, and workshops of Jamie’s original choreography, are also planned for this season.
